Sprinkler drainage

In automated warehouses equipped with sprinkler systems, in the event of a fire, water is simultaneously discharged from all nozzles, creating a deluge effect over bins and shelving units.
If not properly managed, this water load can compromise the stability of the metal structure due to the unexpected weight of accumulated water.

To ensure efficient drainage, our crates are designed and manufactured in compliance with FM Global guidelines.

FM Global is an international mutual insurance company specializing in loss prevention and risk management for large enterprises. Products made to FM Global standards are known for their high technical quality, which can lead to lower insurance premiums and greater safety for insured facilities — although certification is voluntary and does not replace local regulations.

According to FM Global specifications, drainage for water from sprinklers or stacked crates requires a series of holes within a 13 mm-high perimeter band, measured from the crate’s internal base surface. This band must be open over 30% of its area to ensure proper drainage.

iMiLOG bins compliant with FMGlobal standards

All iMiLOG containers are designed to comply with FMGlobal guidelines, an internationally recognized standard in the field of industrial safety.

According to FMGlobal:

  • Sprinkler water must drain quickly to relieve the structure of excess weight
  • The system must prevent water stagnation that could increase the load
  • Bins must facilitate sprinkler drainage and promote a shower effect toward the underlying load units

iMiLOG bins are tested to ensure they do not obstruct water flow and meet the structural requirements of certified fire protection systems.
